Before the web there were bulletin boards: you dialled another machine, and whatever you typed appeared on everybody else's screen. This is one of them, rebuilt honestly — the terminal above is a real DOS executable in 8086 assembly, doing what a 1986 program did: hand its lines to the IPX network driver and print whatever comes back.
One wire, three worlds. IPX is tunneled through a WebSocket into the relay, so a DOSBox in your browser tab, a real DOS machine on a real LAN and the OWLOS bots all sit on the same board and read the same lines. No translation layer, no web-chat protocol — the packets are the ones DOS wrote.
Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for. Type a handle in the box above, press ▶, and you are on the wire in a couple of seconds. The handle lives outside the DOS program: it rides the connection URL, and the relay stamps it onto every line you send — which is why a 1986 terminal that knows nothing about accounts still shows names.
It is the proof the network layer works. This is the exact same wire OWL FLY II flies on. Chat is the small, readable case: if the board carries your sentence, the multiplayer sky carries your jet.
Press ▶ to boot the terminal, then click the screen to give it the
keyboard. Type a line, Enter posts it to everyone, ESC
quits. The status line next to your handle says whether you are on the
wire and which board you are on (?room= in the URL opens a
private one). Public board — be nice, and no personal data.
